Delete your account

You can delete your QuitDuo account and everything in it at any time, and you do not need to give a reason. There are two routes; both end in the same permanent erasure.

1. In the app

  1. Open QuitDuo and go to Settings → Privacy & data.
  2. Choose Delete my account and type DELETE.
  3. Confirm it's you: re-enter your password and tap Delete forever — or, if your account signs in with Google or Apple, tap Delete forever and sign in with Google or Apple once more when asked.

The deletion runs straight away, and the app signs you out when it is done. For an account that signs in with Apple, the app first asks Apple to revoke QuitDuo's Sign in with Apple authorization; if that request fails, the deletion still goes ahead, and you can remove QuitDuo yourself in your Apple Account settings. If something goes wrong, the app tells you — and the email route below always works.

2. By email

Write to hello@aiovent.com from the email address your account uses, with the subject “Delete my QuitDuo account”.

Signed in with Apple and chose Hide My Email? Apple does not let you start an email from that relay address, so write from any address and tell us. We will send a confirmation to your relay address, which Apple forwards to you, and go ahead once you reply to it. If you still have QuitDuo on your iPhone, deleting in the app is quicker: Apple confirms it's you.

We will confirm your identity, delete everything listed below, and email you when it is done — within 30 days, and normally within a few working days. You never need to install the app to use this route.

What is deleted

DataWhat happens
Profile (nickname, email address, settings, consent record)Deleted
Logs: cravings, cigarettes, check-ins and moodsDeleted
Craving notesDeleted
Journal entriesDeleted
Plans and schedules, including a 90-day programDeleted
Rewards: streaks, reward meter and badgesDeleted
Messages in your account: motivational messages, and the pre-written messages between you and your ObserverDeleted
Observer links, including the nicknames on them Deleted. The link ends for the other person too; if you were someone's Observer, their step-down plan waits or pauses until a new Observer joins.
Craving alertsDeleted
Reports you sent us, and reports about youDeleted
Your list of blocked peopleDeleted
Sign-in account: your email and password, or the link to your Google or Apple account Deleted. Your Google or Apple account itself is not affected.
Archived logs used to improve the pacing algorithm (none at present — see Retention in our Privacy Policy) Deleted, if any exist; ask us and we will confirm in writing.

What we may keep, and for how long

We keep nothing about you for marketing or profiling after deletion. Records the law requires us to keep may survive — for example accounting records relating to a purchase, where German commercial and tax law sets the retention period.

If you bought the 90-day program, the purchase was made through the App Store or Google Play: Apple or Google keeps the receipt under its own policy, and we never receive your payment details. Deleting your account ends a program that is still running and does not refund it — refunds are requested from Apple or Google (see our Terms of Service).

Two things stay in another person's account, because they are part of it: if you were an Observer, the pre-written messages you sent remain in the history of the person you supported, without your name, email address or account ID; and if someone blocked you, their list of blocked people keeps your former account ID and the date of the block — never a name.

Some records are not deleted with your account but expire on their own: entries in our server logs, which can contain your former account ID and your IP address, for up to 30 days; and, if you switched on usage statistics or crash reports, those records, which are not linked to your account — PostHog deletes them after 1 year, Sentry after 30 days.

We keep no backups of our own and never restore deleted data; copies in Google's own disaster-recovery systems expire on Google's schedule.

Want your data first?

Deletion is permanent, and the app has no button for a copy of your data. If you want one, write to hello@aiovent.com before you delete your account — from your account's address or, with Hide My Email, from any address and tell us — and we will send you a copy within one month. Keep your account until the copy has arrived.

Just want a break?

You can sign out and come back later — your data stays where it is. You can also choose which notifications you get in Settings → Notifications, or turn them all off for QuitDuo in your phone's settings, without deleting anything. If you are in a 90-day program, its days keep running while you are away.
